The Bag of Rice
Aunty Bisi ran a small foodstuff shop in Oshodi. Sales were dry. Debt was plenty.
One Tuesday, a woman came in and said “Aunty, please pack 1 bag of rice for me. I’ll pay next week.”
Aunty Bisi wanted to say no. But something told her: “Give her.”
The woman never came back. 2 weeks, 1 month. Nothing.
Aunty Bisi cried. “God, if it had not been for your grace...”
3 months later, a big man entered the shop with 4 boys.
“Madam, do you supply rice to schools?”
She said “No o.”
He said “My wife told me about you. She said you helped her when she had nothing. That was my sister. She’s fine now. I want to give you a contract to supply 200 bags every term.”
Aunty Bisi sat down on her bucket. She couldn’t believe it.
That night she sang:
_“Ore ofe sha ni mo ri gba o...
Aanu sha ni mo ri gba o”_
Because the seed she thought was lost grew into a harvest.
Sometimes grace looks like a bad debt that turns into a contract.
