While I was waiting for the boat to Hengam Island in IRAN at the busy Bandar Abbas port, every spot was full of activity. This island in the Persian Gulf is known for its clear turquoise water, wild dolphins, unique silvery beaches, and southern communities’ traditional way of living.
It took us some time to reach the boats from the port’s entrance. Luckily, there were minibus services that could take us to the transportation channel. However, every photographer who wants to capture the beauty and bustle of local life would have chosen the way I did. As my friend and I had around half an hour before our boat departed, my curiosity got the best of me, and I went sightseeing for a short while
I snapped this shot of this lovely woman and child because of her amazing traditional southern dress. She was going back home to the island, where she had been shopping. Her clothes, the bright colors, and the overall vibe screamed life, so much so that I couldn’t help but capture this moment. The woman carries large bags with her shopping, a piece of clothing for the child on her shoulder, and a bag on her back. I edited this photo so that the whole world fades away in black and white except for the wonderful woman and child.
Have you ever been to an island where time forgot to change traditions and local customs remained the same as centuries ago? What attracts you most in coastal ports and markets? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!
